Company Overview
Established in 1954, Sin Kwang Optical was founded by Lee Jwee Lim, Lee Giam Poh, Chng Chek Jiang, Lee Teng Poh and Khoo Hock Teng with the humble goal of providing quality and trustworthy optical solutions.
Over the years, Sin Kwang Optical grew as a reputable distributor of leading International eyewear brands in Singapore. The company formed successful partnerships with key suppliers, including Charmant, Legacie, Nigura and Rodenstock, and set up presence in Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia.
To ensure strong support to partners, the company formed 2 subsidiary divisions: Sin Kwang Optical and Neuvista Agency in Singapore and 2 subsidiaries in Malaysia: Sin Kwang Optical(M) Sdn Bhd & Sima Marketing Sdn Bhd. Neuvista Agency handles exclusively the portfolio of Charmant Inc. Sin Kwang Optical remains the headquarters to constantly explore, nurture and champion new brands.
Milestones
1950s
- Distribute OEM (original equipment manufacturing) eyewear products from Hong Kong.
- Appointed as distributor of Rodenstock, a German eyewear company (1958).
1960s
- Set up plastic frames factory, Singnet Optical Industry, in Singapore (1964).
- Started first OEM brand name, Starlite, designed by GP Lee.
- Obtained first distributorship for lenses from BAO.
1970s
- Appointed as distributor for Nigura from Germany.
- First in Singapore to bring in CR39 lenses from SOLA.
- Started subsidiaries in Malaysia.
- Wholesale – SIN KWANG (M) SDN BHD.
- Lenses lab – SIMA OPTICAL (M) SDN BHD.
1980s
- Appointed as distributor for Charmant products from Japan.
- Appointed as distributor for Ray Ban (1983).
- “Starlite” transformed into “Americania” and continued its success (1988).
- Started OEM brand – “Jean Pucci” (1988).
1990s
- Revolutionalized the optical industry from prescriptive to fashion eyewear through successful marketing of “Armani”.
- Growth of Charmant enabled our group’s brand portfolio to grow from 5 to more than 20.
- Richard Ross was transformed to handle group’s Information technology needs.
- Developed our first point-of-sales (POS) solution for the optical retail – “Optical Practise Manager” (OPM).
- Appointed as distributor for key brands; Esprit & Hugo Boss (by Charmant).
2000s
- Appointed lenses distributor by TOG-Excelite lenses (2005).
- For the first time, obtained licensee rights to produce for Braun Büffel (2006).
- Exclusive distributor for Puma & Lacoste for Singapore, Malaysia & Indonesia.
2010s
- Partnered with Legacie as exclusive distributor for David Yurman, Judith Leiber and Kata for Singapore, Malaysia & Indonesia.
